These pictures of the Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23A Advanced
Tactical Fighter prototype were digitized with Digi-View (of
course!). The 24 bit file was then transferred into 16 color hi-
res with The Art Department (thank you ASDG), reduced, dithered,
and then saved to disk. The final assembly and text addition
were done with Deluxe Paint III.
View with any IFF viewer.
A brief description of the ATF project: the ATF is the next
generation fighter which will replace the F-15 and F-14 well into
the next century. While the F-15 and F-14 are outstanding planes
for the day, they are nowhere near stealthy, and are not
efficient enough to have long cruise ranges at high speeds. Nor
can they sustain supersonic flight without afterburner.
The ATF project goal is to design a fighter that is efficient,
stealthy, can outfly anything in the sky, and obtain
"supercruise", which allows supersonic flight at military power
(no afterburner).
As you can see, the blended contours of the F-23 reflect it's
Stealth Bomber heritage, making this plane a truly modern
stealth fighter (the F-117A is a first generation, the ATF is
considered fourth generation). Supercruise was first achieved on
September 18, 1990. Maximum speed to date is Mach 1.3.

public domain, but are freely redistributable, as long as this
readme file accompanies them.
If you want to see more aviation/space pictures, let me know;
I've got a hard drive darn near full of them!
